There are nude beaches all around the United States, but there is only one legally recognized clothing-optional public park in the state of Texas, and it’s Hippie Hollow right here in Austin.
Hippie Hollow, previously known as McGregor County Park, isn’t really a beach. It’s more of a steep, rocky shoreline, with access to Lake Travis.
Hippie Hollow Park is on a remote section of the shoreline of Lake Travis, and it became popular in the “free love” era of the 1960s with people who enjoyed skinny dipping or lying naked in the sun, thus the nickname ‘Hippie Hollow’ was born.
The clothing-optional park is just 30 minutes from downtown Austin and access is strictly adult-only.
In addition to sun bathing and swimming, people over 18 years of age can also enjoy hiking in the 109-acre park.
The current price is $8 per day to visit Hippie Hollow, or $3 for seniors (62 years and older). There are restrooms and free parking at the park.
There is zero tolerance for lewd behavior, so behave and enjoy yourself, and don’t be the person that causes Park Rangers to make an arrest.
Hippie Hollow is located at 7000 Comanche Trail, Austin, TX 78732, and it’s open daily from 9 AM to dusk.
Go vist and be sure to wear shoes that will enable to you make your way down the rocky terrain and get your all around tan.
