The Moontower Loft is in the Mueller neighborhood in Austin and when you walk in the door and go up the stairs, there are a series of photographs of the old Robert Mueller Municipal Airport.
The Robert Mueller Municipal Airport operated in Austin from 1930 to 1999.
While houses, offices, bars, restaurants, shops, parks, cafes, and big box stores cover most of the ground of the former airport, there are still some landmarks left, including the old air control tower and a couple of hangers.
One of the photos in the Airbnb apartment is from the dedication of a new terminal at the airport, which was attended by then-Vice President Lyndon Baines Johnson and Austin Mayor Lester Palmer.
If you’d like to take a photo of the old air control tower, it’s only about a half-mile walk away from the Moontower Loft.
There is a hanger a few blocks away from here in Mueller Lake Park that is used for various events.
Enjoy your stay in the Mueller neighborhood and snap some pictures of the old sights that are still here.
